Last Wednesday was the Rugby League game between Salford Red Devils U19's and Wigan Warriors U19's so we thought we’d sneak a little trip out of the office and go and experience some of the action firsthand......
The AJ Bell Stadium is the home of the Salford Red Devils (shared with the Sale Sharks but we won’t mention that haha!) and its state of the art facilities and sheer size make it a really impressive place to visit. We arrived just before kick-off meaning we had time to observe the warm-up practices and pre-game procedures; it also gave us a chance to observe the obvious easy rapport between the players and the coaches- which is always great to see! Whilst, they then went back to their changing rooms for a pre-game strategy talk (top secret stuff!) we got the opportunity for a little behind the scenes tour of the AJ Bell Stadium which was brilliant to see the quality of facilities they have there. (And I’m not just talking about the Costa coffee machine in reception!) Check out some of the images for yourself......

The match itself was great to watch firsthand- particularly as Salford Red Devils Academy came from 0-18 to win their first game of the 2017/18 season against Wigan Warriors Academy. Looks as though we were the lucky charms here at Onside! The boys displayed huge levels of energy and enthusiasm which was matched in turn by the coaches who stood offside shouting encouragement to the boys and tips for success. The coaches never gave up on the belief that victory was possible and in turn neither did the players.

It is also worth noting that even those who didn’t get to play owing to previous injuries etc. had a role to play whether in delivering water at intervals and passing on the coaches’ tips to the players! The first half of the match looked as though Wigan had Salford beat, however Salford never gave up and thanks to a fantastic fight back in the second half they claimed victory against Wigan.

Salford Red Devils are recruiting NOW for their 2018/19 season so if you are interested in playing Rugby at this historic venue with this exceptional team then get in touch now by emailing Salford Red Devils Education Academy manager Neil Blackburn at neil.blackburn@salfordreddevils.net or calling him for an informal chat on 01617861591. Seriously....we would (if we weren’t all a teensy bit over the 16-18 age limit!)
