National Apprenticeship Week 2018
Posted on 8th March 2018 at 15:35
This week has been National Apprenticeship week, the theme for which has been celebrating the success of apprenticeships and the benefits they yield for everyone, including;
• The wider economy
Working to encourage others to look at apprenticeship programs as a great opportunity to progress into a desired career; learning vital skills on the job whilst receiving training and wages. To celebrate the apprenticeship learners we have here at Onside we thought we'd use this blog to feature a couple of them and they're employers and hear about how apprenticeships have worked to enhance their career prospects and development.
On that note we offer a number a number of apprenticeships in:- sports, fitness & personal training, teaching, early years childcare, team leading and hospitality. To find out more about the apprenticeships we offer click here
To kick off this blog we have one of our learners Stephanie Plant who has been completing her Level 3 PESS (supporting the delivery of P.E and school sport) with us- let's hear what she has to say about her apprenticeship experience so far...
"I enrolled on this course to gain an insight into the delivery of school sport and physical education; to help me prepare for the practical delivery of lessons, supporting qualified staff within the schools I am working in and ensure the safety of children. I hope that the course will consolidate and expand on the knowledge gained through my coaching qualifications & degree, to ensure that I can apply that knowledge to improve the quality of learning for the children I work with.
I am enjoying the varied content of this course. It is providing the opportunity to research the structure of schools and the vital role everyone plays in the delivery of physical education within schools.
In the long term, I would like to continue being involved in the delivery of physical education within the primary school environment. I enjoy the excitement & enthusiasm of young children, and their openness to learning new skills and sporting activities. I am enjoying gaining the practical skills relating to P.E delivery and would like to become qualified to deliver and lead lessons. I may return to University to complete my PGCE qualifications to expand my future choices in teaching within the school environment."
The image above features a statement from Stephanie's employer Jason Roberts at Activ-Sports about how employing apprentices has benefited his company.
Then up next we have apprentice learner Aaron Longden; also completing his Level 3 PESS qualification whilst working as an apprentice at Rochdale Sacred Heart:
"I selected to do an apprenticeship at RSH because of the environment that you work in, it’s a fun place to be here with all of the lads. Also the facilities here compared to a traditional college are miles better and its great that its all in one place, you do work here and you also train here so there’s no hassle of having to go off site. This course is not just preparing me for this year or for next year, I really feel its forward thinking and is developing me for the future- in which I hope to progress into either teaching or coaching."
To accompany this we also have a statement from Aaron's employer at Rochdale Sacred Heart- Mike Holt (see below) :
