Meet Edd "The Head"

OF EDUCATION & PARTNERSHIPS.
Edd Draper joined Onside Education in 2016 first as the Head of PE and School Sport, before transitioning onto his current role. Edd completed his degree in PE, Sport and Dance with QTS (qualified teacher status) at Liverpool John Moores University. On completion of his degree Edd spent a duration of time as a PE teacher before coming to work here at Onside. With that being said one of the first things we had to ask him was concerning his vision for Onside Education…
“To be known for authentic quality education and to constantly improve the quality of everything we do- Improving 100 things by 1% leads to 100% improvement".
What did you want to be as a child?
I knew I wanted to pursue a career in education/teaching from an early age. I was in Year 5 and the teacher I had at the time was an inspiration, she built my confidence, got me into sports and playing Football and from then on I really enjoyed school and engaged with learning. Whereas before I was a really shy child and I didn’t like school so this teacher changed my life and had such a positive impact I knew I wanted to do the same for others. (Dare we say that before that Edd confided that his early childhood ambitions included working as a postman or a leisure centre manager!)
What type of student were you at school?
In primary school I was shy and in secondary school I was just as I am now, I was fairly well behaved and in secondary school I was Head Boy.
What would you consider to be your greatest achievement? Running the London Marathon twice in 2009 and 2012.
Favourite subject at school?
PE and History. My favourite topic in history would have to be American Presidents.
Favourite book, and why?
I only really read non-fiction, I love reading autobiographies; particularly sports ones- I probably have about 200 of them at home! For favourites I’d have to say Marcus Trescothick’s autobiography ‘Coming back to me’. I read it at a time where it had a really positive impact on my life.
International Rugby Union and Cricket to watch and then I also love running.
That’s a tough one! It’d either have to be Shawshank Redemption or Zero Dark Thirty.
Any phobias? I’m petrified of heights…and needles- injections can be quite an ordeal!
What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?
Something not many people know about you? I like doing Karaoke (something that is actually well known in the office- look out for him on the X Factor!)
If you enjoyed this blog then keep an eye out for our future ones. Also, a big thanks to Edd for agreeing to be the focus of this months staff interview- stay tuned for next months!
