The educational guidelines for course delivery are generic and standardized, therefore there is scope for us as training providers to be creative and customize delivery of the course whilst cover all of the modules. Our most recent Multi-Skills course took place last Saturday (day 2 will be the coming Saturday). The course location was the idyllic Park Western Hotel in Preston (big thanks to them for having us…and for the coffee & biscuits!). Day 1 of the course is a combination of theory and practical- classroom sessions in the morning are intermixed with practical fun exercises that follow an active learning approach. Then the afternoon session is held in the hotels indoor activity hall to give participants the chance to experience delivery of a selection of the games which they could then adapt to use in sessions with the children they will be teaching/coaching.
The games include teaching the principles of coaching fundamental movement skills (“FMS”) and coordination via activities including throwing/catching, a game of Sheppard and sheep ( in pairs one closes their eyes and is led only via their partners instruction to teach the importance of communication in coaching). There was even FMS speed dating!
FMS Speed Dating in action...
Even our course leader got involved!

These activities are unique to our delivery and encourage learners to learn by doing and engage in lively classroom discussions and learn off their fellow participants as well. The afternoon session in the indoor activity centre is then where learners require their trainers and active wear! This session is in preparation for the second day of the course for which part of the pass requirements is for every learner to deliver a practical 40-minute delivery of a session under the supervision of one of our assessors. The exercises encourage learners to think outside the box and get creative, putting all the knowledge gained in the earlier sessions into practice i.e. age group the session would be suitable for, how it would be delivered/controlled, encourage all children to participate and also demonstrate adequate considerations for risk assessment.

This course will actively engage participants and inspire them to maximize their delivery of physical education and sport sessions to ensure a positive impact on the health, enjoyment and lives of the young people they will be teaching/coaching.
COMING SOON…Don’t believe us just watch- video highlights from Day 1 of the course will be available very soon so keep an eye on our social media platforms for more!
