The award for Onside Education Scholar of the Year was personally selected by our Education Manager Richard Lepori, who has overseen the progress and development of learners across all of our partner academies throughout the UK and through his regular visits to each academy is perfectly qualified to select a student overall who merits the recognition of this award.
This year the winner was 1st Year student at Manchester International Football Academy - Mohammed Munye.
(pictured below receiving his certificate from Richard).
Here is what Mohammed had to say in his own words after receiving his trophy-
"The year has been exciting, it’s been great to come to MIFA and be with everyone as a team. The tutors have been really amazing, and so has Rich and the other Onside staff members, I have felt supported and encouraged the whole time- you can have a chat with them and a laugh as well as the serious side, everyone has just been so friendly and it has really helped me to grow and develop as a person. Everything I have achieved so far is thanks to Ben, Junaid, Jay and Rich and I am very grateful. Before coming to MIFA I used to be very shy and I didn’t have much confidence, but now 1 year on I am A different person- I enjoy speaking to everyone and I feel more confident in myself and I believe more in myself.
With this award I am shocked, happy and excited all at the same time! I’m just very grateful. I’ve never received anything like this before so the trophy will have a very special place at home, and in my heart.”
Mohammed was selected by Richard as a consequence of his ongoing hard work and determination throughout the year, here is what he had to say...
"When I considered who I wished to select to receive the award this year, Mohammed was the clear candidate for me - he never missed a lesson, or an opportunity to further his academic potential, whether that be additional one-to-one sessions or extra revision sessions for exams. Although, he struggled at the start of the year his transformation from the start of the year is remarkable - both academically and in his character; his marks have improved dramatically and he is on track for some solid results. Then in terms of his personal growth, when I first met him he was extremely shy and quiet and I was unsure as to whether he would be suited to the academy environment with all of the other lads, and whether he would be able to adapt, however I am extremely proud to say that he proved me wrong! He has flourished this past year and he is barely recognizable as the boy I met back on enrollment day - he's now confident, chatty and actually a bit of a cheeky chap! That is a testament to his hard work and to his character, I have been proud to watch; and support him on this journey and I wish him every success for the future. Once again - Well done Mo!"
