Onside Education is delighted to offer the 1st4Sport Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football (in conjunction with the FA Association) the 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Football is the first qualification on the football coaching ladder. The qualification is designed to provide learners with an introduction to the practical and theoretical aspects of coaching football. The foundation level of knowledge recognised in this qualification will enable them to develop an understanding of the safe, ethical and effective management and coaching of football. Those who complete this Award will be able to plan, deliver and review individual football coaching sessions. They are able to lead sessions independently if they are over the age of 18. Interested? Awarded by 1st4Sport Qualifications and developed in partnership with The Football Association, our course will provide those with an on-going involvement in football with further development of their knowledge. The course will cover the basic of effective planning, delivery and evaluation of football coaching sessions. 


Anyone over 15 years of age, who is looking for an introduction to coaching football to grass-roots teams. As preparation for working with a junior football team, individuals looking to help their football club gain FA Charter Standard accreditation will be interested in taking this qualification. Parents of children playing football who would like to become more involved, sports centre staff, teachers, youth workers and volunteers would also find that this qualification supports their involvement in the sport. Students in further or higher education, studying sports-related coaching qualifications, should pursue this qualification as a valuable addition to their portfolio of coaching skills. 
Requirement for FA Charter Standard accreditation 
The 1st4sport Level 1 Award in Coaching Football is used as part of the requirements for amateur football clubs and schools to achieve the appropriate FA Charter Standard accreditation, allowing learners access to membership and the benefits of The FA Coaches Association (FACA). 
Developed in partnership with the experts The qualification has been developed in partnership with the Football Association. You can therefore be confident that this qualification is the very best Level 1 football coaching qualification available. 
Provides a progression route for coaches

An experienced and fully qualified Tutor/Assessor guides our course. 
The qualification is divided into the following four mandatory components: 
Unit 1: How we coach football 
Unit 2: How we play football 
Unit 3: How we support football 
Unit 4: The future football player 
Theory – Planning & Preparation 
The theory part of your course coaching sessions is a crucial element of your role as a coach. To support your theoretical understanding, Onside Education will provide you with your own Personal Candidate Coaching Pack containing everything you need for the duration of the course and beyond. Your pack contents will include: 
FA Level 1 Coaching Handbook 
All course session and activity plan templates 
Internal and independent assessment tools 
Practical – Coaching Delivery 
You will play an active role in the coaching sessions delivered by your Assessor, and will also have the opportunity to coach your colleagues at points during the course, which will allow for your Assessor to feed back to individuals as well as the group as a whole. 
Your Final Assessment 
Please note: Your final assessment can only take place if you attend all practical course dates in full, have your coaching pack completely up to date and have all other final assessment pre-requisites to demonstrate.

Upon passing the course, you will receive a qualification (accredited by 1st4Sports): Level 1 Award in Coaching Football

• Be at least 16 years of age 
• hold as a minimum a current FA Emergency Aid Certificate 
• hold a current completion certificate for The FA Workshop Safeguarding Children in Football (Alternative arrangements are available for learners under the age of 18 years of age) 
The above prerequisites, for those who do not already hold the appropriate evidence, will normally be provided by recognised centres as part of the learning programme.
